Donor Car and Other Parts

I bought an apparant ebay bargain of a 1995 N reg "bubble" shape Rover 416SLi with a 1.6 16v mpi engine for the total price of £73. I bought it unseen, but at that price it was worth the risk. Collecting the car required a trip to Eastbourne to collect, this was on a trailer as the car had some accident damage. Of course the omens were not good as the battery was flat and it would not start! Anyway it did not look too bad and it was taken home. At home it was unloaded and a jump start was attempted, but the immobiliser appereared to be armed, so having given up it was put in the garage. With the combination of putting the battery of charge and a borrowed jump pack, I was able to reset the immobiliser and get it started and run up to temperature, so despite being a bit oily the engine appeared to be OK, and was a runner at least. I registered the car in my name and put it on a SORN notice with DVLA. The car was stripped of all the parts I wanted over a 2 week period, and then scrapped.

I also collected some of the other key second hand parts that were required. A trip to the scrapyard saw the purchase of a set of Fiesta XR2 front hubs and driveshafts, I was given a pair of Sierra front hubs. I got a pair of nearly new sierra calipers off a westfield builder.
